Exploring New Zealand

Few trips excite like a holiday in New Zealand. The land of Fire and Ice. Oceans and Mountains. Vineyards and distilleries. From the North to the South, this iconic destination is swoon-worthy.

Approximately three hours from Australia’s mainland, NZ is mostly accessible by plane, with major carriers offering plenty of flight options and even transit stops enroute to the United States or South America. No matter if you’re here for a short pit-stop or a long exploratory journey, you’ll absolutely love New Zealand.

Global travelers have been drawn to NZ’s landscapes and natural beauty for decades.

From the Northern coast to the snowy peaks of the Southern Alps. No wonder it was the backdrop for Peter Jackson’s epic Lord of the Rings Trilogy! The hardest part about planning your trip to NZ? Choosing which part to travel first!

The South Island is an adventure-lover’s paradise. Choose from hitting the slopes near Queenstown or Christchurch - the Southern Alps provide world-class skiing (or snowboarding!) and are suitable for day-trips from each city. Queenstown alone has four ski regions to choose from, with the closest just 20 minutes from the town centre.

The famous Milford Sound is also a crowd favourite here.
A destination that needs to be seen to be believed, the Fiordland National Park’s stunning rainforests covering striking slopes which erupt from the sea. Throw in a few (hundred) waterfalls, fresh air and an abundance of sea life and you have yourself a life-changing few days in nature.

The North Island is also not to be missed. From Auckland, the Island is yours to explore - Lake Taupo’s hot springs, Coromandel’s Cathedral Cove or the ‘most photogenic waterfall’ in New Zealand, Whangarei Falls.

We’ve got an abundance of affordable New Zealand holiday packages to choose from. Whether you’d like to base yourself in Wellington or coast through Christchurch - browse our list of NZ accommodation packages here.

Top things to do in New Zealand :

  • Go to a Marae, a Maori meeting ground. Highly recommended! This is the easiest way to freely interact and learn about the beautiful Maori culture. There are plenty of tours offering this as part of their itineraries.
  • Hit the snow. Straight to the South Island with you! Snowboard Mt Hutt or Ski the Remarkables - that choice, plus plenty others is yours.
  • Dine the fine way in Queenstown. The calibre of restaurants in Queenstown will have you wanting to move there! A world-class foodie adventure, you could spend a week there and still not try it all!
  • Auckland Sky Jump. If jumping off a building and plummeting 192 metres straight down off NZ’s tallest tower sounds like your idea of fun then this is definitely your cup of tea.
  • Get active! Hiking and biking is a must-do no matter where you are in New Zealand. The scenery is too nice not too!
  • Unleash your inner adrenaline junky! Here you’ll find bungy jumping rafting, jet boating, skydiving and zip lining all on your doorstep. How hard will you go?

New Zealand travel tips

  • Pack wet weather gear. New Zealand is famous for it’s four-seasons-in-one-day. Jandals are thongs and jerseys are jumpers! You’ll need both.
  • Be prepared to drive through all sorts of terrain. Hiring a car? Make sure you have an experienced driver - roads can be windy, narrow and cover hilly terrain.
  • Don’t cheap-out on the hiking gear. Splurge on shoes that are waterproof and chill-proof - it’s cold out there!
  • New Zealand power sockets are the same as Australia so you wont need to buy an adapter.
  • Look out for Bluff oysters on your menu. Many say they’re the best oysters in the world.
